Seminar
Class includes 6 classroom modules, six pool dives, 6 open water dives, use of standard scuba gear, textbook and dive planning tools. Not included: mask, snorkel, fins, hood, boots, gloves and mouthpiece
The four previous prices all cover the same material. There are different prices for the different style classes; we offer private, semi-private and group classes. The class that would finish the quickest is a private class. During the private class the instructor teaches the student at the student’s pace and schedule. Classes are general completed over a shorter period of time because they can meet multiple times during a week. Group lessons do cover the same material but they are done on a set schedule, generally once a week and take longer to accomplish.
The minimum amount of time the student will spend in training with the instructor is forty hours. Outside of the formal class the student will be expected to do homework. Every chapter of the manual has questions at the end that are assigned. There is also an exam at the end of the course. It is required that the student passes the exam with very high scores or reexamination is required.
During the open water class scuba equipment is included in the price of the class but personal fit items are not. It is recommended, especially if further education is in the future, that students acquire their own equipment during the open water class. This allows the student to become more comfortable in the water and allows familiarity with equipment, which promotes safety. Upon completion of the open water program an evaluation would take place. It is generally recommended that the diver does some dives at the ocean and surrounding lakes to polish skills learned in the open water before entering the advanced program.
NASDS "Dive Safe" Open Water Program
Did you ever what it would be like to glide through inner space and to venture where many people only dream of going? Scuba would allow you to do that. As a diver you could glide over amazing coral formations explore sunken shipwrecks or enjoy a local dive. Anyone can learn to scuba dive with the proper training and a complete total diving system.
Requirements:
What does our "Dive Safe" program include?
Aquatic Specialties and NASDS stands for quality
education
NASDS Open Water Scuba Diving Certification Course
6 Sessions Consisting of Pool and Lecture
NASDS Open Water Certification Dives (Freshwater
Boat Dives and Ocean Beach Dives)
Advanced Open Water Certification
Advanced Open Water Class includes; lecture, open water review, advanced
dive planing, under water navigation, night diving redundant breathing
systems and deep sport diving equipment not included.
The advanced program does not include the rental of any equipment. For reasons of safety it is the belief of many in the dive industry that at this stage in a diver’s career they should own their own equipment. Rentals are available, but are not recommended and can actually be more costly than the purchases of equipment over the entire training period of an instructor.
The advanced course consists of about ten hours of lecture. It also consists of several days of intense in water training. Students will also be expected to study the entire manual prior to the class. Upon completion of the class the student will again be evaluated. Again, it is recommended that the diver participate in diving and practice skills learned in class.
Master Diver Certification
Master Diver Class includes: Equipment Maintenance,
Advanced Navigation, Relocation Recovery, Physics and Physiology textbook,
equipment and three elective specialties not included in base rate.
The master program is broken up into several different units. The program is designed to start training the recreational diver to start taking responsibilities for other divers and gain further knowledge of the science involved in the sport of diving.
The first unit is equipment maintenance. Equipment maintenance is a class designed to teach fairly new divers what repairs and maintenance they can do to maintain equipment. It also focuses on repairs divers can do to repair their own equipment. It also describes what repairs a diver can do without voiding the warranty of equipment. This class is further stressed when the student, Todd, starts working with dive classes as an assistant. He will be relied on to fix minor equipment problems students face in the classroom and the open water.
Advanced navigation is a very important skill for an instructor to master. This class further enhances the student’s knowledge of navigating underwater.
The relocation recovery class is designed to further enhance navigational skills. It also teaches the student search patterns, the use of marker buoys and lift bags. This class is a great skill builder and is one of the most popular classes. Instructors are required to take and be well trained in subjects they will eventually teach. As a result of being a very popular class, this class is a necessity of a new instructor.
Physics and physiology is an in depth study into the sciences which affect divers . These classes give an advanced look at what happens to the diver in the water and why there are so many rules when diving. The knowledge of these sciences are vigorously examined at the conference/test instructors must pass to get their certification.
Three specialty courses are also required to fulfill the requirements for master diver. One recommended specialty class would be a SafeAir class. SafeAir is very popular method of diving with different air mixtures. These air mixtures can add additional safety to the sport. SafeAir is another class, which is very popular, and a well rounded instructor should be able to teach.
Another recommended specialty would be ice diving. This is a class focusing on winter diving. If Todd plans on working as an instructor in northern climates this, is another recommended skill instructors should have.
The master program takes several months to accomplish. A great deal of time is required of the student both in the classroom and water, but also on their own studying and practicing. Upon the completion of the master program students are evaluated again making sure that they are ready to progress to the next level.
Rescue Diver Certification
Rescue Diver Class includes:
Standard First Aid, First Aid for Divers, CPR Oxygen Administration,
Aquatics Management and. Emergency Management, does not include textbooks
and required equipment
Rescue diver prepares the student for handling diving accidents, injuries
and emergencies. The class is designed to train the student to care for
themselves or other divers in the case of an emergency. This portion of
his education would require time in the classroom and water, along with
home studying, practice and observing and helping other instructors.

NITROX or SafeAir is very popular method of diving with different
air mixtures. These air mixtures can add additional safety to the sport
by diving NITROX/SafeAir divers are much safer and are at less risk for
decompression sickness. NITROX/SafeAir also help to prevent fatigue while
diving
Altitude Diving- there must be some consideration when
diving at different altitudes. This class looks into how to approach and
plan an altitude dive.
Boat Diving - Learn how to safely and efficiently dive from
a boat. What is proper etiquette on a boat when it comes to packing, water
entry and the ride home?

Professional Dive Educator
Dive Supervisor: Includes; proper procedure on dive planning,
preparing for dives and leading dives in the open water. Instruction would
be given on proper procedures for shore dives as well as boat dives, filling
cylinders, checking gear and minor equipment repairs. Student would also
be required to assist open water instructors in teaching Open Water Classes.
Training is done in the classroom, water, home study and personal evaluation
sessions after each class are given so have instant feedback on progress
and places which need improvement.
Assistant Instructor: Includes; all the necessary training and
coaching which is required to take the instructor course. Assistant instructor
provides the time for the necessary training and coaching which is required
for the preparation of the instructor course. The student isrequired to
keep close contact with the store. Assisting, observing and teaching as
many classes as possible under the direct supervision of an instructor
or instructor trainer, is one of the major focuses of this portion of the
program. It is much like student teaching.
Instructor Training: Is weekly formal training sessions focusing
on, teaching, sales and marketing techniques to help the perspective instructor
learn to market his or her service. Instructor candidates also continue
to work in the classroom and in the water with students teaching and getting
feedback from instructor trainers.
Sales Seminar: Sales seminar is a marketing and sales training
class which instructor candidates must participate. It is a very intense
seminar lead by one of the leading sales trainers in the scuba
The Instructional Evaluation Seminar: is the final step in becoming
an instructor. At this point the student is deemed ready to go get his
certification to become an instructor. The actual seminar lasts several
days, testing the student's knowledge, skills and abilities. It is required
by the certifying agency that students must leave their training region
and be tested by an outside source. This generally means flying to somewhere
like Little Rock ,Memphis or Fort Collins for approximately four days to
a week.
