Statement
of Purpose:
Our
goal is simple. We want all bills passing the Legislature to be consistent
with traditional Republican values and the State Party Platform. We seek
to provide a solid, focused and effective counter to the big government
fast track the governor has successfully set the Legislature upon. We firmly
believe that properly apprised of the facts, the vast majority of New Hampshire
citizenry will reject the current policies being promoted. We further believe
the majority of the Legislature can be persuaded to return to reasonableness
and common sense.
Highlights
and guiding principals:
Partisanship:
We're all for it. The democratic process upon which this country was founded
is impossible without choices, freedom of expression and open debate. Squelching
debate by promoting non-partisanship or bipartisanship on otherwise contentious
issues flies in the face of American democracy. Insisting only one view
be allowed a public voice is totalitiarianism. Promote
Republican ideals.
Government
competition: It is not the function of government to duplicate or
replace the private sector. Government should encourage competition not
be the competition. Shrink government,
taxes and spending.
Education:
Return academics and accountability to public education. As in many other
areas we should encourage and praise the fine performance of private schools
from kindergarten on up. Government should not seek to replace them. Publicly
funded schools should be held accountable for their results.
Common
sense social policy: We seek to neither dictate nor diminish traditional
moral values. We promote personal responsibility,
strong families unharrassed by government and the reaffirmation of basic
right and wrong.
Constitutionality:
If a bill or any proposal is inconsistent with the Constitution it is out
of consideration. We are not in favor of passing feel-good legislation
and leaving it to the courts to determine the legality. Responsibility
in law.
